Our Mission

Funded through the National Lottery Community Fund, Open Energy aims to support members of the community in saving money on their energy bills and making their homes more comfortable to live in. Collaboratively with our partner organisations, we are working to take meaningful climate action to create a more comfortable, affordable, and sustainable residence here in Newtown.

The Open Energy project aims to host to several programmes; these include:

Community Engagement and Education:

  • Educational and interactive visits to schools and educational establishments to deliver climate and energy materials.
  • Outreach days, where our partner organisations are invited to share climate and energy efficiency information. This is an opportunity for community members to meet the Open Energy team and our partners and learn about our project.
  • Informational content containing helpful tips for energy efficiency in the home.

Re-use and Recycle Regimes:

  • Support/create Repair Cafés in Newtown, to help prevent useable gadgets, appliances, and jewellery going to waste.
  • Clothing swaps, creating sustainable spaces for clothing recycling.
  • Uniform exchanges – making sharing good quality second-hand uniforms easier for people across Newtown and surrounding areas. This helps families save money whilst also reducing waste.

Signposting and Future Proofing:

  • Here at Open Energy, we aim to help people save money while helping the planet. We will be working with partners to audit homes that wish to see where energy efficiency changes can be made, and we can offer directions to where appropriate funding is available.
